The KNVB Cup second round concluded on Thursday with Feyenoord and Fortuna Sittard booking their place in the last 16. Below is a round-up of the action.

Feyenoord 5-1 ADO Den Haag

Cup holders Feyenoord came from behind to defeat ADO Den Haag thanks in part to a hattrick by Nicolai Jorgensen.

The cup is seen as Feyenoord’s only realistic chance of a trophy this season and Giovanni van Bronckhorst sent out a strong eleven. However, he watched his side fall behind in the seventh minute when Nasser El Khayati fired past Kenneth Vermeer.

Ten minutes later, Jorgensen equalised after taking advantage of a poor backpass from Giovanni Troupée but ADO Den Haag remained dangerous with Elson Hooi striking the bar. Before the break, though, Feyenoord made it 2-1 when Eric Botteghin headed in a corner.

In the second half, Feyenoord were rampant. Jorgensen made it 3-1 in the 55th minute with a powerful strike before he completed his hattrick with a close-range finish. A minute from time, Sam Larsson sealed the victory with a nice strike off the post.

NEC Nijmegen 2-3 Fortuna Sittard

Fortuna Sittard came from behind twice to seal their place in the last 16 at the expense of NEC.

The hosts took the lead in the 20th minute thanks to an excellent strike by ex-Ajax right-back Terry Lartey Sanniez. However, two minutes later, Fortuna Sittard were awarded a penalty when Jozef Kvida fouled Lazaros Lamprou and Mark Diemers levelled the scores.

In the 28th minute, NEC restored their lead as Sven Braken found the bottom corner with a powerful strike from just outside the box. It could have been 3-1 before the break but NEC captain Joey van den Berg hit the post.

Fortuna Sittard fought back in the second half, equalising in the 66th minute through Finn Stokkers before Lars Hutten netted the winner late on.
