The KNVB Cup third round ended on Thursday with three final ties. Below is a round up of all the action.

ars fnjExcelsior were the only Eredivisie side in action on Thursday and they booked their place in the fourth round by seeing off WKE 3-0. Carlo de Reuver opened the scoring after 38 minutes, and Ninos Gouriye doubled the lead with 25 minutes to go. WKE were given hope when Excelsior’s Kevin van Dierman saw red on 79 minutes, but any chance of a comeback was thwarted by Jordan Botaka in injury time.

Amateur’s De Treffers gave NEC Nijmegen a scare, but the Eerste Divisie eventually triumphed 3-1 after two late goals. A penalty from Sjoerd Ars gave NEC the lead on half time, but Wessel van der Horst equalised on 72 minutes. NEC Nijmegen were then reduced to ten men when Navarone Foor saw red, but any chance of a shock was spoiled when Ars added his second, and Anthony Limbombe added a third in the 90th minute.

The game of the night was in Kerkrade as Roda JC saw off Sparta Rotterdam 4-2 after extra time. After only eight minutes Sparta Rotterdam were ahead through a Paul Gladon penalty, but Roda JC forward Marc Hocher netted an equaliser just before the half hour mark. Five minutes after the break Gladon restored Sparta Rotterdam’s lead with a lovely header, but once again Roda JC came back and forced the game into extra time in the 91st minute through Hocher’s second of the game. Seven minutes into extra time Sparta’s Jeremy de Nooijer was shown red, and with the extra man Roda JC went ahead through Guy Ramos before Hocher completed his hat-trick.
