Ajax are into the KNVB Cup third round after a 4-3 victory at Telstar.

For the visit to the Keuken Kampioen side, Erik ten Hag decided to start youngsters Jurgen Ekkelenkamp and Ryan Gravenberch. Noa Lang and Perr Schuurs also came into the eleven.

Telstar started the game brightly and that resulted in two big chances, but in the 25th minute, Donny van de Beek crossed for Lang to tap in at the back post.

Three minutes later, Sergino Dest made it 2-0 and by doing so broke a record. It was Ajax’s 155th goal in 2019, which is more than any other Eredivisie side has managed in one calendar year.

A minute before the break, Telstar pulled one back through a Frank Korpershoek header.

Three minutes into the second half, Ekkelenkamp tapped in a third for Ajax before Dest made it 4-1 before the hour mark with a great strike.

Benaissa Benamar quickly pulled one back for Telstar from a corner and two minutes before the end, Reda Kharchouch set up an exciting finish by making it 3-4 after racing in on goal.

However, Ajax held on to seal their place in the third round, while a debut was also handed to 17-year-old Sontje Hansen, who finished as top scorer in the recent U17 World Cup.
