The last 16 of the KNVB Cup got underway with three ties on Tuesday. Below is a round-up of all the action.

AZ Alkmaar 5-0 PEC Zwolle

AZ Alkmaar have comfortably sailed into the last eight after a 3-0 win over ten-man PEC Zwolle.

The hosts made a fast start with Oussama Idrissi hammering a strike past Diederik Boer in the tenth minute. Moments later, Mats Seuntjens thought he had made it 2-0 when he sent a wonderful lob over Boer but the ball bounced on the line and back onto the pitch before being cleared.

In the 18th minute, Seuntjens headed Adam Maher’s excellent cross into the path of Idrissi who hammered in his second of the night. Calvin Stengs then sent Fredrik Midtsjø free in the 26th minute with a wonderful outside of the boot pass and the Norwegian crossed for Guus Til to slide in a third.

A horror first-half got even worse for the visitors just before the break when Thomas Lam saw a straight red card for bringing down Seuntjens.

Within five minutes of the second half it was already 5-0 as Seuntjens and Midtsjø added further goals for the home side. These proved to be the final goals of the game despite AZ’s total dominatiomn.

Willem II 3-0 AFC

Willem II ended AFC’s run in the KNVB Cup with a comfortable 3-0 win in Tilburg.

AFC wasted a big chance early on through Yordi Teijsse and were quickly made to pay by the hosts. Donis Avdijaj opened the scoring in the 18th minute from Daniel Crowley’s cross. Fran Sol made it 2-0 from the penalty spot in the 36th minute before Aras Özbiliz fired in a third before the break.

AFC had knocked out Telstar and Top Oss in the previous rounds but there wasn’t to be another scalp as Willem II comfortably saw out the second half.

Twente 2-0 RKC Waalwijk

FC Twente booked their place in the last eight with a 2-0 victory over fellow Keuken Kampioen Divisie side RKC Waalwijk.

In the 26th minute, Xandro Schenk headed the hosts in front but Twente then failed to add a second as chances came and went. Eventually in the final minute, Jari Oosterwijk settled the game on the counter-attack.
