The KNVB Cup first round concluded on Thursday evening with Feyenoord, FC Twente and Utrecht all booking their place in the next round.

VV Gemert 0-4 Feyenoord

Dylan Vente netted a hat-trick as Feyenoord eased into the second round.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst made wholesale changes for the cup tie with 17-year-old midfielder Orkun Kokcu handed his first-team debut.

After eleven minutes, Mo El Hankouri raced down the left wing before finding Vente to tap in the opening goal. Before the break, Kokcu made it 2-0 with an excellent finish after another assist from El Hankouri.

The second half was comfortable for Feyenoord, who ended up 4-0 winners with Vente completing his hat-trick with two tidy finishes.

Utrecht 2-0 MVV Maastricht

On his 71st birthday, Dick Advocaat got his first win as Utrecht boss as they saw off Keuken Kampioen Divisie side MVV Maastricht.

Utrecht dominated the match but had to wait until the hour mark to take the lead when Gyrano Kerk was fouled in the box and Cyriel Dessers netted from the spot.

Both teams were reduced to ten men with Lukas Görtler and Joeri Schroijen both shown straight red cards for separate incidents.

In the final moments, Nick Venema sealed the victory.

Groningen 0-2 FC Twente

Groningen’s disastrous start to the season continued on Thursday as they were dumped out of the cup by FC Twente.

Only one win in six league games means Groningen are bottom of the Eredivisie and on the stroke of half time they fell behind to FC Twente. Javier Espinosa fired past Sergio Padt.

Twente dominated in the second half and eventually sealed their win when Peet Bijen headed a free-kick into the net.
