Heerenveen are through to the KNVB Cup third round after a 3-0 victory over ten man FC Twente.

finnbogason 2The away side started on top, and Shadrach Eghan was unlucky not to open the scoring, as his effort came back off the post.

On twenty minutes Heerenveen took the lead, as Alfred Finnbogason’s ball across the box was tapped into the net by Luciano Slagveer.

Twente were then sent down to ten men, with Roberto Rosales being shown his second yellow card on 24 minutes for pulling back Slagveer.

In the second half, Finnbogason doubled Heerenveen’s lead, when he finished into the top corner, after a good run and cross from Slagveer.

Finnbogason then netted his second of the game, and 11th of the season with a close range header to kill off any chance of a Twente comeback.

The Icelandic striker had a chance to net his hat-trick, but saw his free kick fly over the bar, and the game finished 3-0 to the hosts.

An early cup exit for Twente once again, and they will now only have the league to focus on, while Heerenveen will look forward to the fourth round draw.
