Joey Veerman scored a 90th minute penalty as Heerenveen defeated Emmen 2-1 to reach the quarter-finals of the KNVB Cup.

Both sides went into the clash in poor form and looking for some relief in the cup. Emmen are bottom of the Eredivisie, while Heerenveen have not won in ten games.
Emmen had the better of the first-half and just before the break, Sergio Pena combined with Michael de Leeuw before firing the hosts in front.
In the 72nd minute, Benjamin Nygren’s deflected effort drew Heerenveen level. Then in the final minute, Ricardo van Rhijn handled the ball and Joey Veerman netted from the penalty spot to send Heerenveen into the last eight of the cup.
