PSV Eindhoven needed a 117th minute winner from Mohamed Ihattaren to defeat amateur side GVVV and book their place in the KNVB Cup third round.

The clash was PSV’s first since Ernest Faber replaced Mark van Bommel as head coach. He decided to start with Kostas Mitroglou up front with Cody Gakpo and Gaston Pereiro also starting.

PSV dominated the early stages but Ihattaren fired against the post while Daniel Schwaab put an effort over the bar.

Just before the break, Kostas Mitroglou opened the scoring with a low strike from the edge of the box after being set up by Gakpo.

PSV failed to kill the game in the second half and they were given a big scare when Danny de Leeuw found the net, but the offside flag went up.

With six minutes left, GVVV did force extra-time with substitute Soufiane Laghmouchi firing past Lars Unnerstall.

GVVV then had chances to take the lead but eventually in the 117th minute, Ihattaren netted from close range to save PSV from embarrassment.

Other results: Sparta Nijkerk 0-1 NAC Breda (AET), OFC 0-0 (p) SV Spakenburg
