Adam Maher had a starring role as PSV Eindhoven beat SDC Putten 4-0 to reach the KNVB Cup 2nd round.
Maher hadn’t yet appeared for the club this season, but was named in the starting line-up on Thursday. He took his chance with an excellent performance that saw him play a part in all four goals.
After only six minutes, Maher opened the scoring with a beautiful strike into the top corner before he crossed for Derrick Luckassen to head in a second on 61 minutes. Nine minutes later Maher netted his second of the evening by volleying Jurgen Locadia’s cross into the bottom corner to make it 3-0.
Minutes before the end, Maher set Albert Gudmundsson free with an excellent pass and the winger found Sam Lammers to slide in a fourth.
PSV now prepare to visit Utrecht on Sunday and it will be interesting to see if Maher plays a role.
USV Hercules 2-4 Groningen
Groningen had some trouble with amateur side USV Hercules but eventually eased through 4-2.
The hosts made the perfect start with Fouad Belarbi finishing of a well-worked move on eleven minutes to make it 1-0. Groningen struggled after the opener but eventually equalised just before the break through Oussama Idrissi. Ritsu Doan came off the bench at half time and a minute into the second half the Japanese winger netted to put Groningen ahead.
A Juninho Bacuna free kick made it 3-1 before Ajdin Hrustic put the game beyond doubt with Groningen’s fourth. Leroy Oehlers pulled back a consolation for Hercules with a few minutes left.
De Meern 0-5 PEC Zwolle
PEC Zwolle had no trouble in hammering amateur’s De Meern.
Stef Nijland opened the scoring on eleven minutes before Younes Namli and a Piotr Parzyszek penalty made it 3-0 at the break. In the second half Wouter Marinus and Youness Mokhtar rounded off a comfortable win.
