johannsson dRoda JC should have been ahead within the first five minutes, but somehow Mitchell Paulissen fired wide from yards out after being perfectly set up by Guus Hupperts.

On 32 minutes AZ Alkmaar took the lead as Roy Beerens corner was headed into his own net by Roda JC defender Bart Biemans.

Ten minutes into the second half Roda were reduced to ten men in strange fashion as Krisztian Nemeth was shown a straight red card for barging into the referee. Nemeth was outraged after not being awarded a penalty, and as the referee reached to show the striker a yellow for diving, the striker ran into the official.

Two minutes later AZ doubled their lead with Aron Johannsson calmly slotting under Filip Kurto after being played through on goal by Rasmus Elm.

Roda JC have enjoyed a good cup run, eliminating both PSV, and Vitesse in previous rounds, but holders AZ Alkmaar were the better team on the night, and deserved to go through to the semi-finals.
