The second round of the KNVB Cup continued on Wednesday with Ajax, Feyenoord and AZ Alkmaar among the sides in action. Below is a round-up of the results.

Eredivisie leaders and cup holders Feyenoord eased into the next round after proving too strong for local rivals Excelsior.

The hosts dominated from the start but had to wait until the 48th minute to open the scoring with Eljero Elia tapping in from close range. Two minutes later Eric Botteghin netted from a corner to make it 2-0 before Jens Toornstra made sure of the victory on 75 minutes after racing onto Rick Karsdorp’s pass.

Marko Vejinovic was given a rare opportunity to get some time on the pitch from the bench and the midfielder reminded De Kuip of his talent by netting the fourth goal with a strike from distance.

Kozakken Boys 1-6 Ajax

Despite making several changes to his line-up, Peter Bosz’s Ajax proved far too strong for amateur side Kozakken Boys.

The game was over by half time with Ajax racing into a four goal lead. Mateo Casierra opened the scoring on 25 minutes with a smart finish from Vaclav Cerny’s cross before Anwar El Ghazi doubled the lead four minutes later, once again from a Cerny assist. Casierra then added his second on 33 minutes and Cerny wrapped up an impressive first half by netting the fourth from an excellent through ball by the impressive Abdelhak Nouri.

Pelle Clement came off the bench at the start of the second half for his first team debut and he quickly netted the fifth goal from another Nouri through ball. Raily Ignacio pulled one back for Kozakken boys before Clement raced onto another fine Nouri pass to add a sixth just before the end.

AZ 1-0 Emmen

AZ were far from convincing but they booked their place in the third round with a win over Emmen. Robert Muhren fired in the winnner from Illias Bel Hassani’s cross with 25 minutes to goal to seal the victory.

Utrecht 1-0 Groningen

A final minute winner saw last years finalists Utrecht edge past fellow Eredivisie side Groningen.

The home side started the game well with Richairo Zivkovic, Nacer Barazite and Sebastien Haller all going close but before the half hour mark Groningen struck the crossbar through Hans Hateboer. Utrecht then struck the woodwork before the break through Haller.

Both sides created several chances in the second half but it seemed the game was heading for extra-time, only for Barazite to pop up in extra time to net a winner.

Vitesse 4-1 RKC Waalwijk

Vitesse are safely through after overcoming Eerste Divisie side RKC Waalwijk in Arnhem.

Yuning Zhang was handed a start by Henk Fraser and he repaid the coach by opening the scoring on 18 minutes with a tap in after good work by work by Guram Kashia. However, RKC equalised just after the break with Pieter Langedijk scoring from Roel van de Sande’s free-kick.

Vitesse quickly regained their lead through a Lewis Baker penalty before Marvelous Nakamba and a late goal by Nathan wrapped up the win.

Other results: Heracles 5-0 UNA, IJsselmeervogels 3-1 Koninklijke HFC
