NEC may be bottom the Eredivisie but they are through to the quarter finals of the KNVB Cup after Soren Rieks goal gave them a hard fought 1-0 win at the Euroborg.

The home side were dominant throughout but NEC keeperĀ Kalle Johnsson made a number of good saves to keep NEC’s lead intact.

IJsselmeervogels 0-3 Ajax

Ajax eased into the quarter finals after a convincing 3-0 win over Topklasse side IJsselmeervogels thanks to a double from Viktor Fischer, and a Danny Hoesen strike.

Fischer gave the Eredivisie champions the lead after only four minutes, as he tapped in at the back post. The home side will have feared the worst after falling 2-0 behind after only nine minutes with Danny Hoesen curling a left footed shot into the top corner.

However IJsselmeervogels then started to play well, and came close in the second half to pulling a goal back, but Van Noord hit the post. Fischer wrapped up the win on 63 minutes as he finished excellently into the top corner from outside the box.

Both NEC and Ajax progress into the next round, and find out their opponents later on Thursday.
