The KNVB second round got underway on Tuesday with several Eredivisie clubs in action. Below is a round-up of the results.

Twente 2-5 Go Ahead Eagles

FC Twente crashed out of the cup after an embarrassing 5-2 defeat at home to Go Ahead Eagles.

The home side went into the game in poor form and they found themselves 2-0 down to their Keuken Kampioen Divisie opponents within the opening fifteen minutes. Antoine Rabillard made it 1-0 before Jeroen Veldmate added a second from the penalty spot.

After the opening period, FC Twente woke up and in the 31st minute, Aitor pulled one back after they were awarded a penalty for a handball. Two minutes into the second half, Peet Bijen equalised with a header from Aitor’s free-kick.

The hosts were favourite to go on and win but instead their defence fell apart and Go Ahead Eagles eased to victory.

Martijn Berden tapped the visitors ahead with twenty minutes left before Richard van der Venne slotted in a fourth. Before the end, Rabillard got his second and the demolition was complete.

Vitesse Arnhem 4-0 ODIN’59

Vitesse eased into the next round with a comfortable win over amateur side ODIN’59.

Thomas Buitink opened the scoring in the 24th minute after a lovely pass by Matus Bero, before Oussama Darfalou headed in a quick second.

Young midfielder Patrick Vroegh, who was making his second start, made it 3-0 before Tomas Hajek added a fourth before the break.

The second half was a stroll for the hosts and they ease into the third round.

Heerenveen 2-0 Roda JC

Heerenveen proved too strong for Roda JC in Friesland to book their place in the third round.

The hosts dominated from the start but Rodney Kongolo hit the post while Radomir Novakovic made several key saves. Just before the break, Mitchell van Bergen opened the scoring.

Ten minutes into the second half, Joey Veerman doubled the lead with a low strike into the bottom corner.

That proved to be the killer goal with Heerenveen comfortably seeing out the rest of the tie.

Fortuna Sittard 3-0 PEC Zwolle

In the night’s all Eredivisie affair, Fortuna Sittard dumped PEC Zwolle out of the competition in Limburg.

Bassala Sambou opened the scoring for the hosts in the 17th minute after a fine pass by Amadou Ciss. Rasmus Karjalainen made it 2-0 with a clever finish just before the break.

PEC Zwolle improved after the break but eventually it finished 3-0 with Darryl Lachman diverting a free-kick into his own net.

Other results: Excelsior 0-2 FC Eindhoven, Katwijk 0-0 (p) TOP Oss
