The quarter finals of the KNVB Cup continued on Wednesday with Feyenoord and Willem II booking their places in the final four.

Feyenoord 4-1 Fortuna Sittard

A Robin van Persie double led Feyenoord to the semi-finals as Fortuna Sittard were downed in De Kuip.

There was pressure on Feyenoord after their defeat to PEC Zwolle at the weekend and they started slowly on Wednesday. Kenneth Vermeer had to save from Andrija Novakovich, while Finn Stokkers also went close.

After half an hour, Feyenoord took the lead when Jerry St Juste crossed for Robin van Persie to prod the ball into the net. However, Feyenoord failed to build on their lead with Nicolai Jorgensen hitting the post.

Fortuna grew in confidence and they equalised when Novakovich broke away from Jan-Arie van der Heijden before firing past Vermeer.

In the 68th minute, Kai Heerings handled in the box, earning Feyenoord a penalty, which Van Persie dispatched. That goal seemed to deflate the visitors and Sven van Beek made it 3-1 with a header with nine minutes left.

Just before the end, Steven Berghuis sealed the win with another penalty.

FC Twente 2-3 Willem II

Willem II twice came from behind to beat FC Twente 3-2 after a thrilling second half in Enschede.

The first 45 minutes had little to shout about with neither side going close to netting an opener. However, ten minutes into the second half, Twente opened the scoring when Aitor Cantalapiedra’s free-kick evaded everyone and nestled into the net.

Ten minutes later, Willem II equalised in fortunate fashion as a Fernando Lewis attempt was diverted past Joel Drommel. Twente didn’t let their heads drop and they were immediately back in front, once again through Cantalapiedra, who dribbled into the box before firing into the net.

Vangelis Pavlidis was making his first start for Willem II and he equalised from close range with fourteen minutes left. The Eredivisie side then booked their place in the semi-finals when Kristófer Kristinsson nodded in the winner.

Feyenoord and Willem II join AZ Alkmaar in the final four. They will be joined by Ajax or Heerenveen on Thursday.
