Willem II became the final team to reach the KNVB Cup semi-finals after a 5-4 penalty shoot-out win over Roda JC. The match finished 2-2 in normal time.

The hosts made the brighter start to the game but it was Roda JC who took the lead through a Simon Gustafson penalty on 37 minutes after a foul in the area by Fernando Lewis.

The lead only lasted two minutes before Bartholomew Ogbeche equalised with a header from a free-kick.

Three minutes into the second half, Roda JC regained their lead when Donis Avdijaj raced into the box before sending a terrific effort into the top corner.

Thom Haye then missed two decent chances for Willem II before Konstantinos Tsimikas did equalise on 62 minutes. Roda JC thought they had won the game late on but Avdijaj’s effort was ruled out by the video referee after a handball in the build-up.

The match headed to extra time but neither side could find the winning goal. In the penalty shoot-out, Willem II netted all five of their spot-kicks before Tsiy Ndenge missed to send the hosts into the final four.

Willem II join FC Twente, Feyenoord, and AZ Alkmaar in the semi-finals.
