Sarina Wiegman is departing the position after the Olympics this summer to take over the English national team, and the KNVB have named her successor on Thursday.
Mark Parsons takes on the role and he told the KNVB website, “I am really happy with this wonderful job. This team has made history over the years and inspired football fans all over the world with their game and also with the way they present themselves off the field. I find it not only a great challenge, but also a great honour.”
Parsons is currently head coach of American side Portland Thorns and he will finish the season with them before focusing on his new role. The Englishman has a tough job on his hands to replace Wiegman who has led Netherlands to the European Championship trophy and second spot at the World Cup.
