In a press release, the KNVB explained that in November 2016 Fortuna Sittard for the 3rd and 4th time missed a deadline which was set between the two to sort the clubs finances. Fortuna appealed the sentence but that has failed and the club have been deducted six points.
In September the KNVB warned the club publically about their finances and docked them three points. The new punishment sees the Limburgers slide from 15th to 17th in the table.
If the club do not successfully improve their finances by the next deadline the KNVB may decide to remove Fortuna’s professional licence.
Fortuna owner Isitan Gün reacted to the club’s website, “I vented my personal opinion, you probably know that the punishment of a club going in the right direction, is in nobody’s interest.”
