The KNVB have announced that there will no longer be a Netherlands U20 side.

The U20 side was a bride between the U19 side and U21’s but the KNVB has now decided to get rid of this.

Netherlands U20’s were last in action back in November 2019 when they lost 2-1 to France. The squad consisted of players such as Thomas Buitink, Zakaria Aboukhlal, Jurgen Ekkelenkamp and Noa Lang.

KNVB Director Nico-Jan Hoogma said on the Ons Oranje website, “The Dutch national team for players under 20 years of age has been under discussion for a long time

“This age group mainly plays friendly international matches and we have doubts whether we can offer the players, who often already play in the first team or train with their club, the stimulus we aim for with our national teams. The loss of the Under-20s is partly overcome by adding a number of players from the Under-20s to the group of U21 when there is room for it. That way, the top talents from this age category can still continue to train together. At the same time, we can investigate whether this fits within the KNVB’s longer-term vision.”
