According to NOS, the KNVB are fully focussed on appointing Dick Advocaat as the new Netherlands head coach and are hoping to wrap up the deal by the end of this week.

Tuesday morning brought news that Henk ten Cate had turned down the chance to replace Danny Blind as national team boss after being offered the role by KNVB director Hans van Breukelen.
NOS are now reporting that the KNVB are moving forward with Dick Advocaat and have already contacted Fenerbahce to work out a deal. Possible assistants have also been discussed with Advocaat, who would be taking charge of the national team for the third time.
The 69-year-old is still under contract with Fenerbahce until the end of their season, which could be in June. However, the KNVB are looking for Advocaat to leave sooner so he could take charge of their friendly at the end of May against Morocco.
Noooooo please…why him,why advocaat?
They are stuck. Not many options and there is no time. They had enough time after Euro disaster but they were sleeping now they woke up late.
yes i’m agree, they woke up late
He’s a stopgap, he’s a decent enough coach with a great track record. Now, if Ruud Gullitt becomes an assistant, this might be a hired mentor and someone to take on the media while the confidence builds. It’s what I am hoping and at 69 years of age he knows how to deal with the media and he can get the respect of his players. If that’s their plan it’s an OK move by me! Then again, you can’t tell me that van Breukelen or de Kock can’t manage the team themselves…
Appointing him is like committing suicidle man! I would rather go for Guulit or van Bronckhost at the stage Dutch football is passing since the football we love has not produced a world class goal scorer since Patrick Kluivert.
Agreed, not sure why Advocaat gets so much hate I’m sure he’ll be a good choice.
He is the biggest loser in Dutch football history, please, find someone with much more modest CV and more character than him! Do it for the sake of Ducht football even if it mean to hire an Italian, please!!!
Everybody with something to prove or better CV didn’t want the job. Maybe they didn’t want to deal with the pressure…
Letting Bert van Marwijk go was a big mistake. Look what he is doing to Saudi Arabia team. Took them all the way up and on top.
you forgot what he did in Euro 2012 van marwijk was good when frank de boer was assistant coach only
Advocaat will certainly evoke more discipline in the side than Blind did…..but will that be enough? Hard to say yes based on the evidence of the players’ own performances in the campaign thus far – the midfield displays against France and Bulgaria were abysmal.
Also, if the “plan” is to have Gullit eventually take over for Advocaat, I don’t find it any better than the horrible plan the KNVB had with Blind succeeding Hiddink. Gullit might have more coaching experience than Blind, but his track record is pedestrian at best.
Very true, but the difference is he wants it. Not saying Blind didn’t, but Gullit has said he wants it and is not snaking his way up the ranks.
i think van basten and frank rijkhard are better option.
Not bad or the worst options, but neither is Advocaat, they just need someone to stir the pot a bit. Dutch football, since Total Football, has become the expectation. Well, it’s become predictable. A lot of teams play it. But when someone like van Gaal comes in and changes the formation everybody is up in arms! We need someone who can innovate and not be the same! Who cares who they are pleasing! Winning will make everybody happy!
Give a chance to new people. The same names keep appearing: hiddink, van goal, advocaat… Dutch have a unique way of play and skilled players. They lack discipline and motivation…
Advocaat, useless in WC94, useless in Euro 2004 and run away from
His national team responsibilities only months ago. A complete waste of space as a coach.
The people that need to be removed are the NOS board….. URGENTLY
