Netherlands boss Ronald Koeman is deeply disappointed after Memphis Depay suffered a serious knee injury which should rule him out of the Euros next summer.

On Sunday, Memphis came off at hal-time of Lyon’s 1-0 defeat to Rennes and scans confirmed he had suffered a cruciate ligament injury, which would rule him out for at least six months.

That will end the season for the attacker and his chances of playing for Netherlands at the Euros next summer.

Speaking to NOS, Koeman was asked about the news,  “How did I experience this news? Poorly, of course.

“It is known that Memphis has certainly had an incredibly high return on the Dutch national team in the last two years. He is a very important player for us.”

Koeman on the chances of Memphis making his squad, “For such a serious injury, there is usually always a certain recovery time. That could possibly be a problem with the European Championship next summer. That is definitely a line through the bill. ”

Koeman also felt sorry for the forward, who played such a key role in reaching the tournament, “I know how proud he was with the European Championship, to be there. This is a great blow to him. “
