Netherlands boss Ronald Koeman has praised PSV Eindhoven right-back Denzel Dumfries for his rapid development this season.

The 22-year-old has had an excellent month, having made his Netherlands debut in the 3-0 win over Germany and on Saturday he scored the winning goal against Groningen in a 2-1 PSV victory.

Oranje boss Ronald Koeman was a guest of De Tafel van Kees on Sunday and heaped praise on Dumfries,

“At the end of last season we had some boys from Jong Oranje to have at least one good training group, which included Denzel Dumfries.

“If you had asked me if he would play against Germany, I would have said no rather than yes, but that is the development of a player.

“You judge him in the first place in the league, but especially in Europe, and he is going through a great development.”

On his goal against Groningen, Koeman added, “He has an incredible drive, is physically strong and fast and did everything well in that situation.”
