Ronald Koeman is pleased to see Arjen Robben come out of retirement and wouldn’t rule out a return to the Dutch national team. However, he is less positive about a potential return for Wesley Sneijder.

Robben has been out for a year but he will play for Groningen next season.

Speaking to Studio Sport, Koeman said, “Great for FC Groningen, this is what the club needs. After such a difficult season and fewer spectators, his return is great. Let’s hope he gets fit and returns to his level. That remains to be seen. “

Asked about Robben returning to the Netherlands national team, Koeman said, “He himself wanted to stop at Oranje. We had a conversation in Munich when I was just appointed.

“I have yet to look at it. It makes little sense to let go of all kinds of forecasts. First, let’s wait for him to really start playing and get fit. He has added value for the Eredivisie and Groningen. If it leads to contact, it will happen again.”

There is talk this week that Wesley Sneijder could come out of retirement and sign for Utrecht, but Koeman doesn’t think it will happen, “It’s hard when you’re out for a year, Wesley’s been out even longer. I don’t see Sneijder making his comeback, I don’t believe it, I don’t see that happening. “
