Ronald Koeman spoke to the press ahead of Saturday’s Nations League clash with Germany in Amsterdam.

Last month, Netherlands began their UEFA Nations League campaign with a 2-1 defeat in France, a result that angered Koeman due to the way Oranje conceded late on.

Speaking to the press, Koeman commented on the disappointment in the camp after the loss, “That lives very strongly with the group of players. We also discussed that last night and made it clear with images; Of course you have to respect an opponent, but you also have to have faith and conviction. It is not all that bad for us and they are not always that good, it always remains a competition. Together you can make steps, but then you have to have conviction. You saw that at the beginning of Ajax at Bayern as well, they might have something like that. From the moment they got the feeling that they could join, they can play football very well. They proved that.”

Koeman feels his side are now on the right track, “I now know much better what I do and do not have, the picture is clearer to me and the players. We are on the right track. This is also confirmed by the victory against Peru and the way we have mostly played against France. Now that is possible again, there are now two very nice matches against strong countries.”

Asked about opponents Germany and their changes, Koeman said, “You see that they have to make some changes, that is also accompanied by lesser performance. They are recovering what they have left behind. At first glance they may be a bit less, but if you look at the selection, it is generally players who are in big clubs. We will not suddenly put aside Germany, we will have to be very good, but they are a little less than a few years ago.”
