At his press conference on Wednesday, Ronald Koeman was asked about Sergino Dest’s decision to choose an international career with the United States instead of the Netherlands.

The KNVB fought to convince Dest to choose a career in Oranje, but the Ajax right-back chose the United States instead.

At his press conference, Koeman was asked whether he was disappointed with Dest’s decision. He simply replied, “No, I am not.”

Koeman then defended Netherlands U21 boss Erwin van de Looi who has been criticised for overlooking Dest, “But my info is that one and a half years ago, Dest played as a right winger in Ajax’s U19 side and he was also not sure for a long time at that club. His development has been a surprise to many. I don’t think it’s right that the arrows are directed at Van de Looi. ”

Koeman also stated that Mohammed Ihattaren was not selected for international duty this time around due to an agreement with the player, who is still dealing with the death of his father.
