Koeman has signed a contract with the Dutch FA until the summer of 2022. He replaces Dick Advocaat, who stepped down in November.
He said, ”I have never hidden my ambition to become Dutch national team manager and I am really happy to be appointed.
”I am delighted. It’s a fantastic challenge and an absolute honour to lead the Dutch national team for the coming years.
”I believe that we can learn from other sports about how they represent themselves with the love fun and discipline for the sport. We have missed that in the Dutch national team.
”We can improve on many fronts. I got that feeling that players going away on international duty thought to themselves that they are away from their clubs so they can take it easy.
”Even as a manager at my previous clubs I have had players who were selected by the Dutch national team and I spoke to them about their experiences. I heard opinions where I thought to myself that things could be done in a better way.
”The players must be proud if they are selected for the Dutch national team and not just feel and view it as something in between their club football.”
