Ronald Koeman has praised AZ Alkmaar duo Owen Wijndal and Teun Koopmeiners after naming them in his Netherlands provisional squad.

Koeman named his provisional squad for the upcoming friendlies with USA and Spain on Wednesday, with three new faces. AZ’s Owen Wijndal and Teun Koopmeiners were both included, along with PSV star Mohamed Ihattaren.

Speaking to the Ons Oranje Youtube channel, Koeman said on the trio making his squad, “We are of course talking about a pre-selection. But I thought it was necessary. Of course, it has to do with a number of injuries, particularly with attackers. Memphis Depay, Donyell Malen, Steven Bergwijn, but also Tonny Vilhena and Terence Kongolo: all injured.

“I have constantly worked with some thirty names in the pre-selection, but it has a number of young boys on it. Especially Wijndal and Koopmeiners catch the eye. With this I send a signal that they are doing very well. Whether or not it will ultimately result in a definitive selection, we have not decided that yet.”
