Netherlands boss Ronald Koeman is happy with the international period but is already targeting crucial points against France and Germany next month.

Netherlands defeated Germany 3-0 in the UEFA Nations League before earning a 1-1 draw against Belgium in Brussels on Tuesday.

Oranje are now second in their UEFA Nations League group with a home tie against France and a tie away to Germany next month. A point from either game should be enough to ensure Netherlands aren’t relegated and will sit among the top ten seeds for the upcoming Euro 2020 qualifiers.

Koeman said, “There is now a foundation. We have France-home and Germany-away next month in the Nations League. Many people will have thought in advance that we would only get one point in this group, but we already have three and are likely to get even more. The most important thing is that we will be group head for the European Championship qualification if we get one or more points. ”

Netherlands conceded early against Belgium, but Koeman wasn’t unhappy and concluded it was down to Belgian’s star players, “That had nothing to do with sharpness.

“It was a great goal from Mertens, we could not do much about that. Those three players in the front of Belgium, Hazard, Lukaku and Mertens, have so many pure qualities that they can create a chance out of nowhere. Fortunately, we do not play every game against players like Hazard. We had trouble in the beginning, but then we got better in the game. In the second half it could fall both ways. We also had two, three moments. ”

Memphis Depay was the star for Netherlands again and Koeman was full of praise for the winger, “He is still developing, but even today he proved once again to be a great player.”
