Sneijder announced his international retirement last month but admitted he was disappointed to be left out of the squad to face England and Portugal because he wanted to say farewell to the Oranje crowd. The KNVB confirmed in a Tweet that Sneijder would be given some sort of farewell at a later date.

Koeman said on Sneijder during his press conference on Thursday, “Wesley Sneijder sent me a message that he wanted to attend the training and which is always possible but it would have perhaps been better for him to come when it is a bit calmer.

”He came to the players hotel and watched the training and spoke to a few players.

”I spoke about him about my thoughts of a potential farewell match for him and that remains between him and me.”
