Netherlands boss Ronald Koeman is disappointed that the European Championships won’t take place this summer but understands the reasons why.

On Tuesday, UEFA confirmed that the Euro’s will now take place in the summer of Euro 2021 due to the coronavirus outbreak.

Speaking to Ons Oranje website, Koeman said, “It is of course a very annoying message, but we understand the choice that has been made. In the developments of the past period, the decision does not surprise us. What is paramount is human health and containing the spread of the coronavirus. Of course I would have preferred to play a European Championship this summer, but we have to be realistic and accept it. In the coming period, we will consider how we can prepare for the moment when international football competitions are restarted.”

The Euro’s will now take place between the 11th of June to the 11th of July.
