AZ Alkmaar midfielder Teun Koopmeiners is delighted to have earned his first Netherlands call-up.

The AZ captain was in Frank de Boer’s first Netherlands squad for the upcoming friendly against Mexico and Nations League matches against Bosnia and Herzegovina and Italy.
Speaking to AZ TV, the 22-year-old said, “Yes, fantastic. When I heard it, it made me a bit quiet. I only thought of one thing and that is that I might be allowed to play in that shirt, wonderful.
“It is a childhood dream for everyone. That I will now be definitively called up and can be there … Wow.”
Koopmeiners has had plenty of messages of congratulations, “I received a lot of messages. I had contact with my parents, grandfather, girlfriend. They responded very special, that was a great moment.”
