On the seventh of October, De Boer makes his debut as Netherlands boss when they take on Mexico in a friendly. On the 11th of October, the Nations League continues with an away trip to Bosnia and Herzegovina and then three days later, a match in Italy.
AZ Alkmaar midfielder Teun Koopmeiners is included for the first time and could make his debut. PSV talent Mohamed Ihattaren, and AZ Alkmaar left-back Owen Wijndal are also included.
Feyenoord winger Steven Berghuis and PSV forward Donyell Malen return to the squad after missing last month’s matches.
The full squad can be seen below.
Well, at least he didn’t pick Klaassen. Good for Koopmeiners to finally get a deserved call-up and hope that Ihattaren gets some playing time.
Not sure why Babel keeps getting picked. He is getting old and hasn’t been nearly consistent enough to warrant continued selection. Better to select a younger forward (Boadu, Stengs, Dilrosun, or Weghorst) and experiment, especially since these matches are 1 friendly an 2 basically glorified friendlies.
I don’t fancy Veltman choice. We can choose T Monsu Fensah instead due he had EPL playing time rather than veltman whom doesn’t. I believe Babel & Strootman is chosen as a motivator role in the team and are respected in the dressing room. Boadu, Stengs, Dilrosun,Weghorst few or all of them will feature soon…..believe me.
I agree with Oranjefan4eva with comments made about Babel and Strootman. However, as far as Veltman is concerned, he does have EPL experience and he’s being called upon as a centre back and not a right back. That’s why we have Dumfries and Hateboer. Although we have de Vrij back in the selection, the issue here is that van Dijk and de Vrij are more comfortable playing on the left, and Aké and Blind also play on the left. So as for right centre backs, without de Ligt, we only have Veltman who plays that side regularly. So, that being said, without months of training, Veltman, may be the only option due to comfort level over a short period of time.
