Kuyt retired as a player at the end of last season, and has since worked with amateur side Quick Boys as an assistant coach to gain experience.

Feyenoord have now confirmed that Kuyt will take over the club’s U19 side from next season with the experienced Cor Adriaanse acting as his assistant.

Kuyt said on the club’s website, “I’m really looking forward to it. This season I got to know the club from the other side with the help of technical director Martin van Geel. I’ve been to Varkenoord a lot and have immersed myself in youth training, an important lifeline of the club.

“I have spoken with all the trainers to get to know them and their way of working better. There were several options and when coaching Under-19 I had, in cooperation with Cor Adriaanse, the best feeling right away. I am convinced that I can convey my qualities and experience to them, as I did with the young boys during my last two seasons as a player. “
