A double from Dirk Kuyt helped Feyenoord come from behind to beat local rivals Excelsior 4-1 in De Kuip.

fey exdfdfFeyenoord went into the derby with three wins from three but found themselves behind midway through the first half as Excelsior stunned De Kuip. Nigel Hasselbaink was the architect for the opener with a lovely sidefoot pass which gave Stanley Eibers a simple task of netting.

Dirk Kuyt had missed two good chances before the opening goal but he drew Feyenoord level just before the stroke of half time after good work from Nicolai Jorgensen. The veteran then made it 2-1 just before the hour mark as he controlled Jan-Arie van der Heijden’s long ball on the chest before firing  a brilliant strike past Tom Muyters.

Feyenoord then wrapped up the win with two goals in six minutes. Steven Berghuis fired into the roof of the net before Jens Toornstra took advantage of an error from Fredy to make it 4-1 at the end.

The victory keeps Feyenoord on top of the Eredivisie, while Excelsior sit 6th.
