LA Galaxy have officially announced the signing of Dutch midfielder Nigel de Jong.

Nigel de JongThe 31-year-old was released by AC Milan at the weekend as negotiations with LA Galaxy reached an advanced stage, and on Wednesday the MLS side announced De Jong’s acquisition, pending final approval. De Jong has signed a one-year-deal, but there is believed to be the option for two further seasons.

LA Galaxy coach Bruce Arena told the club’s official website, “Nigel is an experienced midfielder who will help the players around him get better,”

“He will add qualities on the field that can strengthen our team in all areas. We look forward to Nigel coming to Los Angeles and joining our club.”

De Jong has been with AC Milan since 2012, with the Netherlands international having spells with Ajax, Hamburg and Manchester City before moving to Italy. The midfielder was a part of the Netherlands squads that reached the World Cup final in 2010 and semi-final in 2014, acquiring 81 caps.
