Zakaria Labyad spoke to the NOS after Utrecht’s 3-2 defeat to Vitesse Arnhem about his decision to join Ajax

Labyad’s transfer to Ajax was confirmed earlier this week but he played in Utrecht’s match with Vitesse and netted in the 3-2 defeat.

After the game, Labyad said, “The news broke quite early that Ajax and FC Utrecht were in agreement regarding my transfer and I spoke with the club regarding the best time to break the news and we decided yesterday in order to give clarity to the FC Utrecht supporters.

“I am really happy with my transfer to Ajax. They are the biggest club in the Netherlands with fantastic supporters. I am also grateful to FC Utrecht for giving me the chance to play for them also I also want to thank my teammates and manager too.

“I also had contact with PSV Eindhoven but I made it clear from the start to FC Utrecht that I only wanted to go to Ajax.

“I spoke to Erik Ten Hag yesterday and he wished my luck ahead of the FC Utrecht v Vitesse Arnhem match.”
