Atalanta Bergamo warmed up for their clash with Ajax by losing 3-1 at home to Sampdoria in Serie A.

After scoring twice from the bench, Sam Lammers was given the chance to start for the first time since joining Atalanta from PSV Eindhoven. Marten de Roon was also present in the midfield.

The home side had moments, but Sampdoria took the lead through Fabio Quagliarella. The veteran striker also missed a penalty before the break.

At the break, Lammers was substituted after he struggled to make an impression up front.

However, the change didn’t prevent Sampdoria from doubling their lead in the 59th minute through former Heerenveen midfielder Morten Thorsby.

With ten minutes left, Lammer’s replacement Duvan Zapata pulled one back for the hosts with a penalty. There was to be no comeback, though, as Sampdoria made it 3-1 before the end through Jakub Jankto.

A second straight league defeat for Atalanta, who host Ajax on Tuesday.
