Heerenveen came back from 2-0 down to defeat Fortuna Sittard 4-2 in Limburg.

Heerenveen were yet to win in 2019 and it seemed their wait for a victory was to go on as Fortuna Sittard went ahead in the seventh minute. New Fortuna signing Calvin Mac-Intosch sent a deep ball for Lazoras Lamprou to fire the hosts in front.

Fortuna doubled their lead in the 32nd minute when Lisandro Semedo set up Mark Diemers to net. However, Heerenveen gave themselves some hope when Daniel Høegh headed in a corner just before the break.

The visitors went searching for the equaliser in the second half and just after the hour mark, Mitchell van Bergen raced into the box before firing into the top corner to make it 2-2.

Michel Vlap hit the post before the midfielder was brought down in the box to earn Heerenveen a penalty. Sam Lammers scored to put Heerenveen ahead. The on loan PSV striker then made it 4-2 with a fine close range finish.

Just before the end, Fortuna were awarded a penalty for a foul on Andrija Novakovich. However, after consulting VAR, Pol van Boekel reversed the decision despite the images looking like a clear foul.

The victory lifts Heerenveen to 11th, while Fortuna are 12th.
