Sam Larsson netted a last second equaliser to earn Feyenoord a 2-2 draw against Sparta Rotterdam.

Jaap Stam named a young starting line-up for his debut as Feyenoord manager with Wouter Burger, Orkun Kokcu, Dylan Vente and Luis Sinisterra in the eleven, while Leroy Fer took his place in the midfield.

Sparta returned to the Eredivisie after a year away with Henk Fraser lining up with a 4-4-2. Halil Dervisoglu and Ragner Ache began up front.

Kokcu got the games first chance but his strike in the fifth minute hit the post. The Turkish midfielder then fired wide as Feyenoord looked for a breakthrough.

Four minutes before the break, Sparta stunned the home crowd. Mohammed Rayhi caught Kenneth Vermeer off-guard with a low strike into the bottom corner after some static defending.

After the break, Feyenoord should have netted the equaliser but Steven Berghuis, who signed a new deal with the club earlier in the day, managed to hit the bar with a header from close range. Stam then intervened with Luciano Narsingh replacing Dylan Vente.

In the 66th minute, Feyenoord did find the leveller with Berghuis sliding in Ridgeciano Haps cross at the back post.

Eight minutes later, Sparta regained their lead against the run of play. Ache found substitute Lars Veldwijk and the striker kept his cool to slot past Vermeer.

Feyenoord pushed for the equaliser and it eventually came in the 95th minute. Narsingh set up Sam Larsson to fire in from close range.

The hosts follow Ajax and PSV Eindhoven by drawing their opening game. Sparta Rotterdam on the other hand will be delighted with a point on their Eredivisie return.
