A 95th minute penalty saw Fortuna Sittard earn a 1-1 draw against Heracles Almelo.

After their 4-0 loss last weekend, Heracles made four changes to their line-up with Mauro Júnior, Mats Knoester, Robin Pröpper and debutante Orestis Kiomourtzoglou all starting.

Fortuna Sittard, who also lost 4-0 last weekend, were poor in the first half and Heracles dominated from the start. In the 14th minute, Heracles had the ball in the net with Mauro Junior finishing off a fine move with a tap-in. However, Kevin Blom was instructed to look at VAR and the goal was eventually disallowed for a slight foul by Cyriel Dessers in the build-up.

In the 59th minute, Heracles did take the lead when Mohamed Osman’s ball over the top was latched onto by Silvester van der Water. The winger rounded Alexei Koselev before tapping the ball into the empty net.

It should have been 2-0 in the 67th minute but Dessers hit the post before the follow-up was somehow kept out by Branislav Ninaj, who was lucky to escape a red card in the first-half.

Fortuna didn’t threaten an equaliser until the third minute of injury time when Felix Passlack hit the bar. Two minutes later, a cross hit the arm of Mauro Junior and Blom pointed to the penalty spot. Mark Diemers calmly scored from the spot to make it 1-1.

Both teams now sit on one point after two games.
