The 34-year-old striker joins FC Eindhoven on a free transfer following his release by Australian side Newcastle Jets FC. Leonardo has been training with FC Eindhoven since the start of the season in order to maintain his match fitness, so will be able to slot straight in at the Jupiler League side.

Leonardo is no stranger to Dutch football having played at Feyenoord and Ajax, winning the UEFA Cup with Feyenoord in 2002 and the KNVB Beker with Ajax in 2007, so he will be hoping for a happy return with FC Eindhoven.

The striker has signed until the end of the season with an option for an additional year. Therefore, he will be looking to impress FC Eindhoven manager Ricardo Moniz, a coach he has worked under before at Salzburg and Ferencvaros.

FC Eindhoven take on Jong FC Utrecht tonight (Friday) with Leonardo in the squad and expected to feature at some point. The Eindhoven club is currently in a play-off place sitting in eleventh with 43 points from thirty matches.
