The 35-year-old worked at the Premier League side for three-and-a-half years in various roles before leaving in January to take over at NEC Nijmegen.

Lijnders spell in charge of the Eerste Divisie side was not a success and he resigned after failing to get them promoted to the Eredivisie.

Liverpool has now confirmed that Lijnders has returned to the club and will work as an assistant to Jurgen Klopp. It is not clear how long the contract is that Lijnders has signed.
