wijnaldum 1The Metro are reporting that Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is preparing to test PSV with a £9 million bid for the 23-year-old midfielder.

Wijnaldum was handed the captains armband at the start of the season by coach Phillip Cocu, but after a good start to the campaign, the Dutchman suffered a back injury.

After netting four goals in six league games, Wijnaldum suffered the injury in September, which has kept him out since, although a return is due within the next few weeks.

PSV signed Wijnaldum from Feyenoord in 2011, and the three time Dutch international has so far made 105 appearances for the club, scoring 38 goals, and adding 18 assists.

Since being made PSV captain Wijnaldum has spoken of his unwillingness to leave the club any time soon, and it is very unlikely that Liverpool will be successful in convincing either the club or player to agree a deal. With Ola Toivonen set to leave the club in January, Cocu will be unwilling to allow another midfielder to walk out the Philips Stadion.
