According to reports in Italy, Liverpool are interested in signing Roma’s Dutch midfielder Kevin Strootman.

According to Premium Sport, Liverpool have enquired about signing Strootman this month, with Roma apparently open to selling the midfielder should an official offer be made.

The 27-year-old, former Utrecht and PSV star, has a contract in Rome until 2022 but the Serie A club isn’t totally satisfied with his form this season. Liverpool see Strootman as a long-term successor to Emre Can, who has been heavily linked with a free transfer to Juventus in the summer.

Strootman reportedly has a release clause of €45 million in his contract, but the fee Roma would be willing to accept is not known. Money shouldn’t be too much of an issue for Liverpool, though, with Philippe Coutinho sealing his £142 million move to Barcelona on Monday.
