Locadia made 31 appearances last season for the Eindhoven club, scoring 13 goals, but since the club signed Luuk de Jong, he has found himself rooted to the bench. This season, Locadia has made only 23 appearances, mainly from the bench and on the wing as De Jong became Phillip Cocu’s undisputed number one striker.
PSV director Marcel Brands has spoken of his hope that Locadia could step into the shoes of the departing Memphis Depay and make an impact next season on the wing. However speaking to Voetbal International Locadia has confirmed he is looking to leave PSV as he wants to continue his career as a centre forward.
The 21-year-old said on the possibility of leaving, “I’m open to it. I hope PSV will cooperate.”
“PSV is a great club, I have a lot to thank PSV for, but it’s a dead end,”
“Luuk de Jong has done a fantastic job this season. I fully understand that he remains first choice, but I must be honest to myself and conclude that my time at PSV then ends.”
“I have been a striker all my life. I want to develop in that place, as Luuk de Jong has been able to do. I am no better striker if I just play on the wing. ”
“I know one thing for sure: I do not want another season like this. If PSV offer no opportunities for me to play as the striker, then I must go.”
