Back in January, Marco van Basten made it known that he would not be renewing his contract at the Frisian club as he felt that he had lost that ‘good feeling’ he used to get when entering the Abe Lenstra Stadium. The news disappointed many fans of the club as the Dutchman has done a great job at the club as they currently sit in 6th and are comfortably on course for a Europa League play-off spot.
Revealed today by many Dutch media sources such as Volksrant and AD, it has been announced that Dwight Lodeweges, the coach of arch-rival club Cambuur will take over at the end of this season.
The 56-year old has done remarkably well with Cambuur this season as they sit well clear of the drop zone in 11th place. Lodeweges has managed many Dutch clubs in his career spanning 25-years in the management game, most notably he has held the realms at clubs such as PSV, Groningen & NEC. The Dutchman has also endured sometime as an assistant at SC Heerenveen back in the 2003-4 season, where the club managed an impressive top 4 finish.
Heerenveens technical director Hans Vonk has spoken out with delight with the clubs new choice of coach.
“Dwight Lodeweges is a trainer with extensive experience and a clear vision of football. He is a true professional and an excellent fit with the club. “
