Dutch defender Glenn Loovens is a free agent after he had his contract with Spanish side Zaragoza cancelled.

loovensThe 29 year old joined Zaragoza last season, and made 20 league appearances for the club, but with their relegation to the Segunda division, both the player, and club decided to terminate their contract.

Loovens started his career with Feyenoord, but only made 25 appearances, whilst spending spells on loan with Excelsior, De Graafschap, and Cardiff City.

In 2006, Cardiff City made the loan signing permanent for a fee of around €250,000, with the centre back becoming a key player for the then Championship club. After three impressive seasons, and 100 league matches, Loovens was snapped up by Scottis Premier League side Celtic, who beat their rivals Rangers to the signing.

A four year deal was signed by Loovens, for a transfer fee of £2.1 million, and Loovens got his first experiences of Champions League football with the club, whilst winning the SPL, Scottish Cup, and Scottish league cup in his four years at the club.

It was at Celtic, that Loovens earned a call up to the Dutch national side, making his international debut against Japan in a 3-0 friendly win, and has 2 caps so far.

It is unsure what the future holds for Loovens with a move to England a possibility.
