De Jong stated how happy he was at PSV Eindhoven and that he never wanted to leave the club when there was speculation surrounding his future last month.

He said, ”I have felt good in the last few weeks and I am delighted to have scored a hattrick tonight and it is a sign that I am also playing well. It is also important for us as a team to increase our goal difference.

”We were pleased to be 1-0 up at half-time especially against ten men. I believe that we were sluggish at times during that match tonight but you must also not forget how well PEC Zwolle are doing this season. They are playing good football.”

When asked about the rumoured move to Mexico during January, he responded, ”I never stated that I wanted to leave PSV Eindhoven. I would only entertain the notion if I received an amazing opportunity which happens quite a lot in football.

”I am happy at PSV Eindhoven. I have had a difficult phase in the last few months and hopefully, I am now coming out of that.

”We are hopefully on the way to winning the Eredivisie and we are playing well. We can only take things game by game. I expect Ajax to beat NAC Breda tomorrow.”
