The forward emphasised the confidence PSV Eindhoven have ahead of next Sunday’s Eredivisie match away to Ajax in Amsterdam.

De Jong said, ”We have a lot of competition for places in our team and today the manager chose for a different lineup within our 4-3-3 formation.

”You always want to play and you need to give your best. Naturally, you always want to play 90 minutes but if you play 45 minutes or even less you want to give everything and be important for the team.

”Today could have been a banana skin and ended 0-0. We are doing well so far this season and I believe today that we deserved our victory.

”Now we have AZ Alkmaar who are 8 points behind us you must not forget that but we also take Ajax into account as I believe that they will battle with us for the title over the course of the season.

”We preferably want to win the ArenA and we know that it is going to be difficult.

”It’s a long season as we known only too well.”
