PSV have started the season in excellent form and currently sit top of the table, with five points separating them from second-placed Ajax. They have also scored the most goals in the league with 33 netted in their opening ten games.

Phillip Cocu’s side’s form is outstanding considering they have a striker who is having an absolute nightmare in front of goal. Luuk de Jong has been in and out of the PSV starting line-up so far this campaign and headed to Arnhem on Sunday looking for his first goal since he netted against Go Ahead Eagles on the 11th of March.

As the first half wore on, it was confirmed that De Jong had gone without a goal in 1000 minutes, but he was then presented with a glorious chance to end his drought. Gaston Pereiro’s shot was saved on the line and the ball popped up to De Jong, who was sure to score from a few yards out. However, his strike was also kept out on the line by Fankaty Dabo.

De Jong was taken off the field on 84 minutes and after the game stated he was confident that the goals would come, telling Fox Sports, I’m not mad and keep working hard, so I’m also important to the team. The goals will come.”

Cocu also remains confident in his striker, “I find it personally difficult for him, but he also shows us how important he is to us. It will be good for him to see how the fans and his teammates appreciate him. If he continues to work so hard, the goal will come.”
