Lyon bought Memphis Depay from Manchester United in 2017 and at the time there were reports that the Premier League giants had inserted a buy back clause.
Those reports have now been confirmed by Juninho, who was speaking to the club’s website about rumours around the winger. Tottenham Hotspur were linked with a £50 million move for Memphis in the English media at the weekend.
Juninho said, “But we have not yet received a bid. Manchester United has the first option when clubs sign up to buy Memphis.”
Memphis has a contract with Lyon until 2021, and Juninho confirmed they are planning to offer the Dutch international a new deal, “He’s really happy at Lyon right now. We’re going to talk about a contract extension by the end of the year.”
man won’t allow Memphis to go to hotspurs.
He is now a great player which all he needed was time when he was at man united i believe now he is mature and at an amount of 35 to £40m could be a good price on him.ilove to see him at old trafford playing for man united
Always 3 parties to a transaction. Buyer, seller, and player. Memphis would have to be a lunatic to wreck his career by going back to Man United, especially after he’s managed to resurrect it so well. Man U is not a top club in English football these days, whether they want to admit it or not.
Tottenham is obviously a more appealing destination, but it doesn’t change the fact that the “link” is just fabricated nonsense by the English press at this stage.
